Record-breaking Graduate Class 

The class of 2026 is our largest graduating class yet, with 50 graduates!  They’ve already obtained employment in the field, acceptance to advanced degree programs, and more.  

Forensic Science Faculty Grows 

This year, Russell Ford and Lisa Gilbert joined the full-time faculty.  They bring expertise in drug chemistry and pattern evidence to support our students.    

Forensic Science Program Hosts Training & Recruiters 

The Forensic Science Program hosted is Rich DeMuro, a Senior Principal Technical Support Specialist Waters Corporation in March 2026 for a presentation on HPLC, UPLC, and MS systems for students and faculty. 

Also in March 2026, we hosted a series of job search training sessions with scientific recruiters from Actalent.  These sessions were attended by multiple sections of FRSC and Chemistry/Biochemistry majors. 

Undergraduate Students Presented Work at National Meetings and University Events 

In partnership with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, FRSC major Kenna Saiidi presented a case study at the  in February 2026.  Connected to that work, Kenna also has a poster accepted for the 2026 NAME (National Association of Medical Examiners) meeting.   

Several forensic science majors presented at Loyola’s  and the Chemistry & Biochemistry Undergraduate Research Symposium including work with Chemistry, Forensic Science, and Biology faculty and internship partners.  Kenna Saiidi won the best research poster for a Sophomore & best overall research poster at the Chemistry & Biochemistry Undergraduate Research Symposium.   

Student Awards 

Logan Wobschall, Madison Alpert, Elizabeth Kearns, and Kayla Kudzas received the Father Morrisey Medals for outstanding Forensic Science Student in their respective classes.  

 Congrats to Dr. Kulbacki!   

Kevin Kulbacki, part-time faculty in pattern evidence, completed his Doctor of Forensic Sciences degree in December 2025 from Oklahoma State University. His capstone research focused on ethics in forensic science and drew on survey responses from over 1,300 practitioners from around the world. His work will be published soon. 

Gruhl received RSO faculty advisor award 

Faculty Wendy Gruhl received an award for 2026 Outstanding Registered Student Organization Advisor, courtesy of the Center for Student Engagement.  The board of the Forensic Science Student Organization nominated Professor Gruhl for her committed involvement and guidance.
